JAMB Announces New Cut-off Mark of 140 for University Admissions
Exciting news for prospective university students! The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) recently announced that the cut-off mark for university admissions for the 2022/2023 academic year is 140. This announcement was made by Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, during the 2023 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions.
What does it mean?
The cut-off mark is simply a minimum requirement, and universities don’t have to adhere to it strictly. Each university will still set its own admission criteria and standards.
New policy consideration from Jamb
JAMB is considering a new policy that would allow Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates to use their own devices, such as phones, during the examination. This proposed policy addresses the rising logistics costs of conducting the UTME nationwide. This “Bring Your Own Device” policy seeks to make the examination process more convenient and cost-effective for both the candidates and the board.
Key Highlights
During the policy meeting, Professor Oloyede also expressed concern about candidates’ overwhelming preference for university education, often overlooking the opportunities available in polytechnics and colleges of education. He urged aspiring candidates to explore the various options within the tertiary education sector for their academic pursuits
Aspiring students should stay tuned for further updates from JAMB regarding these new developments. We will continue to provide you with the latest news and updates to support your educational aspirations.
